Two Things You Don’t Talk About At Dinner
Feb 4 | 11am

Somehow we have lost the art of civil discourse. It is easier to name call, bully and shout down anyone who may have a differing opinion rather than allowing for multiple perspectives, finding areas of commonality and agreeing to disagree upon the things where we cannot. How did we lose the ability to engage in a civil conversation about complex and convoluted issues? How can we return back to a time of more reasoned, purposeful and thought-provoking dialogue?
For many of us, attending the theatre has become a participatory experience. Perhaps you may read the play before-hand, or if the play is an adaptation, check out the novel from which is was adapted. Maybe you conduct a Google search for some interesting context. Or you make a point of reading Applause or the Study Guide when you arrive at the theatre. And after the performance you may choose to process what you have seen over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee with friends.
To enhance your participation, we regularly host events designed to engage or "Connect" audiences with our plays. Here are more of the many ways you may join the join the conversation:
- Talkbacks - Perhaps the best way to fully appreciate a production is by engaging in a stimulating dialogue with your fellow audience members and the actors who bring it to life.
- Perspectives - Denver Center Theatre Company’s own “Creative Team” and community experts host interactive, topical discussions with attendees that provide a unique perspective on the production. This provides an in-depth connection that makes the stage experience even more rewarding.
- DCTC@The TC - Discover the secrets behind the art and the artist at the DCTC. Gain deeper insight into the artist’s journey to the creation and development of their work. Gregory Smith, Director of Audience Development at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, hosts these lively and engaging discussions with directors, writers or cast members of the current DCTC productions.
All of the above events are free of charge, so find an event that fits your schedule and interest and join the conversation.
